The Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies (RMZ) serves as an interdisciplinary platform for research and teaching in Science Studies in its broadest sense. lt provides a place for exchange and cooperation for researchers interested in how science works. The Robert K. Merton Center for Science Studies (RMZ) is part of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as an interdisciplinary centre and carries out projects in the field of science studies. lt offers an inspiring and dynamic work environment where relevant topics in science and science policy are discussed and studied.



  • Participation in research on the topics of Research Quality and Academic lntegrity within two research projects: "Publication Bias in Research Practice: Analyzing Non­ Publication and Non-Perception of Research Results in Disciplinary Comparison (PANNE)" and "Automated Misconduct Detection: Uses and Effects of Digital Tools for lnvestigating Research Misconduct (AUTO)".   • Conducting case studies of manual detection methods for safeguarding research quality within the publication process
  • Analyzing qualitative data, esp. with regard to disciplinary comparisons
  • Designing and conducting an intervention to reduce publication bias among PhD students
  • Presentation and publication of results in German and English
  • Contributing to teaching activities (2 SWS = 1 course per semester)
  • Tasks for own scientific qualification (Promotion)



  • Hold a M.A. degree in a relevant area (e.g. Science Studies, Social Sciences, European Ethnology, Cultural Studies)
  • doctoral project already started in the above­mentioned subject area
  • Documented experience with qualitative methods, esp. expert interviews, and/or ethnographic methods
  • A keen interest in the areas of academic integrity, research quality and/or publication bias
  • Knowledge of the international publishing system is an asset
  • Documented experience working on research projects
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, as well as independently, good organizational skills
  • Good command of German and English
