Full Professorship for ‘Culture and Lifestyles in Migration Societies’ (W3)


from as soon as possible.


The Professorship has been created in the context of the continued expansion of interdisciplinary research at the Berlin Institute for Empirical Research on Integration and Migration (BIM). Substantial experience and expertise in the institutional development of scientific organisations and their embedding in academic and societal networks – nationally and internationally – are, therefore, required.


The successful candidate should have an excellent record in research and publication on matters related to the field of ‘culture in migration societies’. Relevant experience in ethnographic research, in teaching and in academic (self)-administration are required as are experience with the successful acquisition of external research funding. Privileged areas of research are: Culture and lifestyle in migration societies, migration as a perspective on global processes, cultural processes of differentiation and socio-cultural heterogeneity, cultural theoretical perspectives on migration and digital everyday cultures in the context of migration and integration.


It is expected that the successful applicant provide experience in interdisciplinary work- and research contexts as well as that the applicant strengthen BIM’s international network and the cooperation with cultural institutions and civil society.


The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the `Berliner Hochschulgesetz`.
