The Faculty of of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Department of Mathematics, invites applications for a

Junior Professorship for Interdisciplinary Mathematics

starting from October 1, 2020. This is a W2 tenure track position. In order to verify whether the individual performance meets the requirements of a permanent employment, an evaluation process will be opened not later than after five years of service. The professorship will be funded by the „Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses.“ The aim of the programme is to pave the way for a secure career in academia for early stage researchers. Tenure track professors at the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teach, as well as be active on various university committees and acquire leadership and management skills. The concrete requirements out of the framework catalogue [https://hu.berlin/tenuretrack_katalog] will be specified in the course of the appointment process.

We are looking for a person, who supports the excellence cluster MATH+ in at least one of its main interdisciplinary research areas. This includes the interlinking of primarily theory-oriented research with application-oriented research within mathematics as well as basic research in mathematics in cooperation with other disciplines such as life and material sciences; energy and network research; humanities and social sciences.

We seek an internationally cooperating person who is accounted for outstanding achievements in mathematical research and interdisciplinary engagement. Additionally, experience and engagement in one or more of the following fields is desired:

- teacher education in mathematics

- cooperation with schools, promotion of pupils

- research achievements in university didactics of mathematics


Applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 102c in connection with § 102a of the “Berliner Hochschulgesetz.” As the “Bund-Länder-Programm“ especially aims to support early career researchers, the time span between finalizing your PhD and your application should be no longer that 4 years (exceptions such as parental leaves will be considered)
