In the DFG project „Curating Digital Images: Ethnographic Perspectives on the Affordances of Digital Images in Museum and Heritage Contexts“ (principal investigators: Prof. Dr. Christoph Bareither and Prof. Dr. Sharon Macdonald) in the DFG priority programme „The Digital Image“, the position of an academic staff members is to be filled. The position will work on the topic of “Curating Digital Images from Online Archives in Museum and Heritage Contexts” and is integrated into the Centre for Anthropological Research on Museums and Heritage (CARMAH) at the Institute for European Ethnology at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (HU) (http://www.carmah.berlin/). The project focusses on ethnographic research on practices of digital curation related to the field of museums and heritage. It brings the competencies of the Centre for Anthropological Research on Museums and Heritage (CARMAH) at the HU together with perspectives and approaches of media and digital anthropology.

The position advertised here will work on the topic “Curating Digital Images of Museum and Heritage Experiences on Social Media”. In addition to the predominantly ethnographic research in this field, the researcher will be involved in a cooperation with the Institute for Library and Information Science at HU Berlin and will also make a significant contribution to the theoretical-conceptual debates within the DFG priority programme. Job description:

Scientific Research Services within the research project “Curating Digital Images: Ethnographic Perspectives on the Affordances of Digital Images in Museum and Heritage Contexts“, in particular practices of digital curation related to the field of museums and heritage; tasks pertaining to scientific qualification (PhD)

Requirements:

M.A. in European Ethnology/ Cultural Anthropology, Media Studies or comparable disciplines with a very good degree; expertise in the field of ethnographic or qualitative research; prior knowledge in the field of Media and Digital Anthropology or Museum and Heritage Studies as well as previous experience with qualitative data analysis software are advantageous; very good written and spoken German and English skills
